When choosing the correct size of goalie pants, it is crucial to account for the internal volume of the gear, where the internal circumference of the pants must be 20–25 cm larger than your actual waist circumference. This margin is necessary for the comfortable placement of a bulky goalie jock and especially for the lower hem of the chest protector if you wear it tucked inside. Furthermore, a looser fit allows the pants to "float" freely on suspenders during the butterfly transition, without restricting hip rotation or thigh movement.
